Words the rota actually uses.
Short definitions, tied to what Shiftbrook does. Five entries, then this set stops for review.
What is a rota
A rota is the plan of who is working, on which day, at which place, and between which times. It is the week before it happens. A timesheet is the hours after they have been worked.
OpenGlossaryHoliday accrual
Holiday accrual is how a leave balance grows. For a regular week it is usually a share of 5.6 weeks. For irregular hours, from April 2024, it is 12.07% of hours worked. This page is a description of what Shiftbrook records. It is not legal advice.
OpenGlossaryCompressed hours
Compressed hours means someone works their usual hours over fewer days. A five-day week of 7.5 hours becomes four longer days, for example. The total is the point. The rota is how you write those longer days down.
OpenGlossaryShift patterns
A shift pattern is a week, or a run of weeks, that you mean to use again. Early and late, four on and four off, or a weekend pair are all patterns. Shiftbrook stores them as shifts, templates and a copy of last week. It does not ship a catalogue of named patterns.
OpenGlossaryBuddy punching
Buddy punching is when someone clocks in or out for a colleague who is not there. The hours then say a person worked when they did not. Shiftbrook’s clock checks the phone against the site pin. It does not take a photo and it does not scan a face.
